Putting your money where their mouth is

It seems that rich Democrats are just as stingy with their money as the rich Republicans that they regularly criticize. In John "War Hero" Kerry's home state of Massachusetts, if you are the type of person (a bleeding heart liberal) that feels that you should pay more taxes to protect services or you just feel ashamed that you are not paying enough taxes, you can elect to pay more just by marking a box on your state tax return. So far, out of 1.6 million taypayers who have filed to date, only 510 thought that they should pay more taxes. Last year, most of the "I-feel-ashamed-of-my-wealth-and-I-should-pay-more-taxes" crowd came from the urban areas of the state. Interestingly enough, those who lived in the higher-class suburbs, didn't really feel the need of paying more taxes and elected to only pay the bare minimum. How strange. And I thought that the Democratic party was the party of "compassion". How much do you want to bet that John the Gigolo and Ted the Swimmer both paid the bare minimum in taxes? I guess they are only "compassionate" when it comes to your money, not their own.
