Disney does C.S. Lewis

Apple - Trailers - The Chronicles of Narnia

I may be a little behind the curve here, but did anyone else know Disney was planning a movie based on "The Chronicles of Narnia"? Evidently it's set for release in December of 2005.

I am seriously excited. Other than "The Hobbit", this is the one novel I've been waiting for someone to make into a live-action film. I do remember seeing the animated version on PBS a long, long time ago and it sparked me to read the novels, but I think it's time for a live-action version.

I'd also like to see a Disney-animated version of LOTR. Think they'll remake it soon? They could probably pull in another billion dollars or so. I know I'd watch it.

The BBC did a live action 'mini-series' type version of it back in the 80's.

As I recall there was quite a fuss made at the time about the level of realism of Aslan (not to mention the work that went into creating him).

It would be interesting to see it again now, I'm sure the effects will not have aged well...

I want to see an animated LotR, but not by Disney. I want to see a version of LotR made by people who actually read the books and don't do ridiculous things like put elves at Helm's Deep or waste scarce screen time with a second "OMG a main character died" event that wasn't in the books (Aragorn falling off the cliff) or the 99 other things that Jackson, Walsh, and Boyens perpetrated on a great series.

I have to admit that I was a fan of the Ralph Bakshi LOTR animation though it might've been too dark and unfamiliar to many people. It was very avant garde. I want to see something done in a little more of a mainstream fashion. LOTR, The Hobbit and the Chronicles of Narnia in mainstream animated fashion. I didn't have a problem with a lot of Peter Jackson's additions. Some were questionable, but not outrageously so. I have more questions about some of the material he left in. For example, did we have to be subjected to the entirety of the Ent moot in "Two Towers". I think not.

You know, L,W&W would make a great movie, since it's not so long that it couldn't be done in a 2-hour movie, which was one of the downfalls of the LOTR movies.

Unfortunatly, I can not see disney being the company to do it. It needs to be an independent film maker, who just loves the books. (and quite possibly someone young, as there are 7 books total, and if the first one's great, we will need the other 6) VOTDT would make a great movie in my opinion.
