Separate And Unequal

"Clinton went back and executed that retarded guy. That said, 'I share your values." -- a disappointed Kerry adviser, quoted by Ryan Lizza at the New Republic. "Let's hope that between now and 2008 Democrats will come up with some other ways to bridge the values gap." Lizza went on to say, disapprovingly.

I don't see any way around it, short of opposing capital punishment altogether, which is pretty much the default postion of a large section of the Democratic party to begin with. As long as we're frying, injecting or otherwise rubbing out the criminals, not to kill the retards too is....discriminatory.

And we wouldn't want that.

Consider. Dogs have even less of a idea of the difference between good and evil than your average sociopathic moron, yet we kill them all the time.

We also execute criminals with above average intelligence--again, all the time.

As long as society is executing criminals, there is no reason retards should get a pass. Indeed, one would think that their very nature would lead a logical society to the opposite conclusion. "No knowledge of the difference between good and evil" isn't an excuse for past sociopathic action, it's a prediction of the surety of such action in the future. If "no knowledge of the difference between good and evil" were a valid excuse, then animal shelters wouldn't be putting vicious animals to sleep every day of the week..

A danger to society is a danger to society, regardless of IQ. It shouldn't matter if they're as smart as Ted Bundy or as dumb as Clinton's Ricky Ray Rector.

First time visitor to House Hraka? Wondering if everything we produce could possibly be as brilliant/stupid/evil/pedantic/insipid/inspired as the post you just read? Check out the Hraka Essentials, the (mostly) reader-selected guide to Hraka's best posts, and decide for yourself.

Today's news:

Eliminating those who were in special ed classes from consideration for the chair will eliminate most of our poster children for the chair. In my experience as a defense attorney, most of my clients had spent time in special ed classes - because that's where they put you if you are mildly retarded, just plain dumb, majorly lazy, or you try to kill a classmate or microwave the class' pet hamster. The court's maneuvers are either fatally naive, or the way a bunch of gutless lawyers attempt to ban the death penalty without having to face impeachment.

The next logical step is to ban execution of the intelligent, since they are possessed of exquisite sensibilities and execution is thus cruel and unusually harsh punishment; and at that point, we can ban the execution of the average, because hey, they feel left out.

The big difference between Republicans and Democrats: Republicans want to kill adult criminals. Democrats want to kill unborn children. Funny how each side claims to value life and then disproves it.

Bigwig, you will get as much grief for using the term "retard" as for advocating equal opportunity executions. But if someone commits a crime for which there is the death penalty, then it is silly semantics to gild their lily with "differently abled" or "special needs", as though victims who are dead don't qualify for Federal aid programs and don't deserve kind words. And Kehaar, killng someone unborn who has not had a chance to commit a crime and killing someone who has and would do so again seems different, but then, I have a bullet hole three inches from my heart and a stoned, drunken hispanic put it there, not a foetus. If the vato had not missed something vital, would it be fair if he were caught and malingered on for twenty years while my next of kin and other taxpayers paid to keep him in prison? Still, final point for Kehaar: I am the father of high-functioning autistic triplets, so if they grow up wrong I should get the chop too, because Silflay Hraka taught me the difference and I should have passed that torch onto them.
