John Kerry - Clintonesque

Git yer red-hot John Kerry intern photos right here! Hurry, before they "mysteriously disappear" from his website forever!

2002 Spring Interns
2002 Fall Interns
2001 Summer Interns
2001 Spring Interns
2000 Summer Interns
2000 Spring Interns
1999 Summer Interns
1999 Spring Interns
1998 Summer Interns

Now study them carefully. Is there a female face that shows up more than once? Maybe a blonde? Here's a hint: (try looking at spring 2000, summer 2000 and spring 2001)

Is it this girl in the pictures above?*

*Not that that means she's the intern in question.

Update: Damn, missed again. The Sun claims the lady in question is one Alex Polier. Her parents say she never had an affair with Kerry. They don't think much of him, though.

There is no evidence the pair had an affair, but her father Terry, 56, said: “I think he’s a sleazeball. I did kind of wonder if my daughter didn’t get that kind of feeling herself.

“He’s not the sort of guy I would choose to be with my daughter.”

More Update: This has got to be a joke (link via the Amish)

Final-in-all-likelihood Update: Alex Polier has finally denied rumors of an affair with John Kerry. Onto the next fire!

Much, Much Later Update: Removed link to phonebook, as the number was no good to begin with, and may since have been transferred to some other person entirely.

The Drudge story mentions that the girl in question was a former writer for the AP. Perhaps not an intern.

The drudge story up now doesn't say either way. Got a link?

Posted by: bigwig at February 12, 2004 08:26 PM

For what it's worth, "Lauren Fahey" is not the name of the "statuesque blonde" in the Boston Herald article that Kaus cites.

Posted by: Wayman at February 12, 2004 08:27 PM

She is always front and center, with a big smile.

Posted by: pittspilot at February 12, 2004 08:27 PM

That's right. There is no allegation, not even from Drudge, of an affair with a Senate intern.

All this "intern search" is bullshit, and borderline libel against the interns. It certainly is knowingly untrue.

Silflay is obviously an idiot but Glenn Reynolds who linked to this at Instapundit should and does know better. He's a lawyer, after all. Maybe you should publish photos of Glenn's lawschool students instead. Have all you boys led pristine lives? Ever cheated on your significant others? Let he without sin cast the first stone, because you're public figures, too. Just ask Andrew Sullivan. Keep it up and watch your own houses turn to glass.

Posted by: Mary Magdalene at February 12, 2004 08:31 PM

Alexandra Polier is an AP writer. There is a funny Amazon wish list ascribed to her.

Posted by: Not Telling at February 12, 2004 08:38 PM

What is wrong with the Democrats and Republicans?

Republicans should take the brunt of the Lewinsky-gate blame which had the net effect of stalling the war on terror.

Democrats should be embarassed at charges of AWOL and betrayal against Bush among others.

My real problem with both Kerry and Bush is that they are already bought and paid for by special interests. Bush should be forced to take McCain as a running mate.

Not sure if there is a fiscal conservative around that could make Kerry's ticket worth voting for.

Posted by: Cog at February 12, 2004 08:44 PM

Contrary Mary, I didn't start the intern rumors, I just followed up on them. Last I heard you should be blaming Gen. Clark, among others.

All the pics were easily, and publically, available via Kerry's Senate website.

But you could be on to something--the wife thinks I'm an idiot too.

Posted by: bigwig at February 12, 2004 08:48 PM

Gee, my wife thinks I'm an idiot most of the time.

Posted by: JorgXMcKie at February 12, 2004 08:55 PM

Let's edit that MM comment -

NNNNoooooooooooooooooooooo!

Yep, I think that about sums it up.

Posted by: Wind Rider at February 12, 2004 08:57 PM

Here's the original Drudge story:
http://www.drudgereport.com/mattjk1.htm

And the part I was referring to:

"A serious investigation of the woman and the nature of her relationship with Sen. John Kerry has been underway at TIME magazine, ABC NEWS, the WASHINGTON POST, THE HILL and the ASSOCIATED PRESS, where the woman in question once worked."

Posted by: Ditus at February 12, 2004 08:57 PM

Thanks Ditus. That's another factoid I can go digging with. Just doing my best to lower the tone of the national conversation.

Posted by: Bigwig at February 12, 2004 09:07 PM

In the spring 2001 pic, does Kerry have his hand on her shoulder? Or is that the other chick? Nice work with these pics.

Posted by: brett at February 12, 2004 09:10 PM

Yeah Mary Magdalene. That's right. We boys all f*** around on our wives all the time, run for President and then send our heinous campaign chief out to the Sunday talk shows, to tell the press that with regard to saying bad things about the other guy, "it's all on the table." Then we cry foul when somebody points out our shortcomings.

Oh no, wait a second. No we don't. I'm sorry, my bad. I didn't mean to say "we", I actually meant to say "John Kerry."

And by the way, thanks MM, for stating that the rest of us men cheat on our wives, so we ought to forgive Kerry. Most of us don't cheat, statistically; very few of my friends do personally. And I hadn't even thrown a stone until now - here it comes.

Piss off back to Kerry for America, or MoveOn.org, or whatever den of partisan bile you crawled out of. I'm tired of politicians who think we should trust them with nukes, when we can't trust them with our 20 year old daughters and sisters (this means you too, Mr. Gingrich); and I'm doubly sick of slime campaigns for anybody who has the gall to point out that maybe a public figure who brazenly f***s around on his wife maybe isn't presidential timber. And tell Shrum that Chris Lehane told me to say that.

Posted by: Blackavar at February 12, 2004 09:18 PM

Hey, "Bigwig". That's a real person you're pointing to. That's somebody's daughter. You have no reason at all to fling accusations at her. She isn't running for office, and doesn't deserve this.

I'll bet her phone is ringing off the hook right now. You must be very proud.

Posted by: Ted Barlow at February 12, 2004 09:22 PM

Hope you've saved the pics, they may not stay up long.

Posted by: Spoons at February 12, 2004 09:23 PM

Good gosh, look at the summer 2000 photo.! Those people are drinking Nestle's Quick and High C fruit punch. That should tell you the age of these kids.

Posted by: pchuck at February 12, 2004 09:26 PM

Are we certain it's a woman?

Posted by: Helvetix at February 12, 2004 09:26 PM

Her phone is disconnected, Ted. I made sure of that before I posted it.

And I did save copies, Spoons

Posted by: bigwig at February 12, 2004 09:30 PM

The Slate item to which you post says the mystery blonde is a Harvard student. The bio for Lauren Fahey says she is a Georgetown student.

Posted by: Deus ex Macrame at February 12, 2004 09:40 PM

Phone disconnected or not, Ted is right: you're taking a person you have no reason to suspect of anything and doing what little you can to make her the focus of lewd speculation. Ted is right, it's shameful.

This has nothing to do with Kerry, who is a dimwit and a blowhard and may well be a serial adulterer, for all I know. So skewer Kerry if you want -- he probably deserves it -- but leave innocent people out of it.

Posted by: ayjay at February 12, 2004 09:49 PM

Witch hunt!

Or actually, it's more of a slut hunt, although Kerry'd be the one most guilty of wrongdoing.

Nice misogyny, guy.

Posted by: Jon H at February 12, 2004 09:57 PM

You know, for an anonymous blogger, you have a funny idea about the privacy rights of other people.

Skewer Kerry all you like- if he committed adultery, he deserves it. But this woman doesn't deserve this. I hope that you reconsider.

Posted by: Ted Barlow at February 12, 2004 09:58 PM

take the link to that girl off.
it's not fair.

leave this girl out of it. seriously. she will have every right to sue the hell out of you and you'll deserve it.

Posted by: rob at February 12, 2004 10:07 PM

Actually, Ted, "Bigwig" ain't all that anonymous if you bother to do the research, which (in pedagogical fashion) consisted of typing exactly one Unix command that I'll leave as an exercise for the reader.

Posted by: Chris Lawrence at February 12, 2004 10:09 PM

"she will have every right to sue the hell out of you and you'll deserve it."

What would the cause of action be?

Posted by: Not Rob at February 12, 2004 10:16 PM

Libel. For implying she has had an affair with Kerry.

Seems pretty open-shut to me.

Posted by: rob at February 12, 2004 10:20 PM

it ain't libel if it's true!!

Posted by: olivelawn at February 12, 2004 10:21 PM

Libel requires a defamatory statement that contains a fact or purported fact. I doubt any reasonable person would construe that Bigwig was purpoting this to be fact. This is obviously pure speculation.

Posted by: notrob at February 12, 2004 10:26 PM

so now bigwig, thanks to the genius olivelawn here, your site implies that it's true that this girl had an affair with kerry.

take down the reference to her. do the right thing.

Posted by: rob at February 12, 2004 10:27 PM

truth is a defense to libel, thus if the statement contains a fact is is de facto not libel

besides, if this girl is out on the internet already she is opening herself up to the NYT v. Sullivan higher standard of being a "public figure"

Posted by: olivelawn at February 12, 2004 10:28 PM

If it's true, I just think the whole idea is romantic. Forbidden love! Ruining a marriage! Staining things!

Posted by: Jim at February 12, 2004 10:29 PM

I'll come out and say it!!

Kerry banged this girl in a three way with Donna Summer behind him with an butt plug

Kerry poured heinz catsup on her ass and ate it out

Posted by: olivelawn at February 12, 2004 10:29 PM

i don't want to debate about legalities; sufficeth to say olivelawn doesn't know sh*t about libel law.

just do the right thing and leave the girl out of it. you have no evidence at all. you are behaving very immorally.

over and out.

Posted by: rob at February 12, 2004 10:33 PM

Instapundit pulled his link from your near-libelous post.

I've never seen him pull a link before.

He even explained why he pulled the link.

He cut you off.

Now are you happy with your tantrum?

Don't mess with Mary Magdalene!

Posted by: Mary Magdalene at February 13, 2004 01:00 AM

Are you kidding? 90% of an Insty traffic spike AND the notoriety of being delinked? I know bloggers that would give their right arm for that.

Upset? Hell, no. I could kiss you, Mary. I want you to come back every day.

Will you, please?

Posted by: Bigwig at February 13, 2004 08:50 AM

you are behaving very immorally.

Bah. I put myself in Fahey's shoes and suppose I'm she and hadn't had an affair with Kerry. I imagine myself clicking on Bigwig's post and reading it. I don't take offense. It's just funny.

Posted by: Jim at February 13, 2004 10:26 AM

This article in philly.com seems to name names about the alleged 'intern'. The lengths reports will go to.

http://www.philly.com/mld/dailynews/news/local/7953102.htm

Posted by: Justreadphilly.com at February 14, 2004 12:33 PM

daily mirror names names dont falselty implicate people

Posted by: teddyboy at February 14, 2004 07:19 PM

Alexandra Polier, who Sen. Kerry allegedly had
an "affair" with, is just a nice Jewish girl.

Come to think of it, Monica Lewinsky was also
just a (nice?) Jewish girl...

Also, John Kerry's grandparents on his father's side were both born Jewish - they "converted" just before emigrating to America in 1905. His grandfather's original name was "Fritz Kohen" (as in "Cohen"). Fritz changed his name to "Frederick Kerry" when he came to America.

Well, who cares? It's about time we had at least a HALF-Jewish President - like John Kerry! (Chuckle) But seriously, I could care LESS if Sen. Kerry had an affair or NOT! When are Americans going to GROW UP? The question is, can the Senator do the JOB of being President? I personally think he can do a lot better than
the idiot sitting there now -

Posted by: Richard at February 15, 2004 12:26 AM

For NotRob: the woman in question could argue libel and false light.

For Olive: she would not reach the status of public figure by merely having an internet site. I assume you are referring to the Amazon.com site (which I think is phony). She might be considered someone embroiling herself in the controversy, but in order for that status to apply she would have to have embroiled herself in the Kerry campaign or some other Kerry circumstances in a major way (see the Kunsler decision). Participating as an intern which she denies does not elevate her to that status. So the standard would be that of a private figure.
