Adventures in Journalism: Yet More Copy-Editing

Today's media misspellings are courtesy of YourDictionary.com's 100 most mispelled misspelled words in English.

accomodate, instead of accommodate - 129 instances
Biggest Offender - The Christian Science Monitor
Multiple Offences - The Joplin Independent, here, and here.

accidently, instead of accidentally - 47 instances.
Biggest Offender - The Providence Journal*
Bonus Prize - The word is spelled correctly elsewhere in the article.

alot, instead of a lot, or presumably, allot - 177 instances
Biggest Offender - The Boston Globe
Odd Question Sparked By The Article - Are obituaries normally found in the "Living" section?

beleive, instead of believe 18 instances
Biggest Offender - The Washington Post
Bonus Prize - Spell checking our own stuff is hard enough! Who cares if our readers look ignorant?
Waht do you do about an employer whos attitude is very non-chalant and does not seem to care of the way he talks but gets an attitude if you get defensive and everything he says consists of you being fired?
Where's Waldo! - Can you also spot somneone, employe, misreprentation, misrepsented, savoy used in place of savvy, diminshed, and enviroment in the article above? How about previous examples alot and accomodate, in this WP article?

Caveat: Yes, misspellings also abound here at House Hraka. However, unlike the major media establishments, we don't possess an entire staff whose job it is to prevent such things.

So there.

Definately!

To be fair (Stupid fair!), Some of those, like "somneone", are obviously typos rather than proper misspellings; m and n are adjacent on the keyboard, and it's unlikely that the author actually thought "someone" had an n there. Likewise with "waht".

Still bloody stupid that a major newspaper doesn't catch it, though.
