Let Nothing You Dismay

The governing council of High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire has a problem with Christmas carols.

Tory council has banned posters for a carol service at a church over fears that non-Christians could be offended.

Chorister Bridget Adams had asked to put up a poster about the event in a local library. She was shocked when her request to publicise the service at All Saints' Church, in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, was refused.

An official said it contravened a policy banning notices of a religious, political or sexual nature.
...
Margaret Dewar, councillor for libraries, said: "Not all religions celebrate Christmas. People who do not have the responsibility of promoting an inclusive society might see this as nitpicking. But our staff would be criticised if they let an extremist sect publicise its activities."

Nothing like "God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman" when it comes to oppressing other cultures, don't you know.

As for Muslim religious observances in High Wycombe....well, nothing wrong with those.

A library that banned the display of posters promoting Christmas services for fear of offending other religions hosted a party to celebrate a Muslim festival only days earlier.

Church officials in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, were told by the town's public library last week that their posters could not be displayed because they pertained to a "religious preference group".

It emerged yesterday, however, that a party to celebrate Eid, the breaking of the fast of Ramadan, had been held there less than a week previously.
......
Margaret Dewar, the councillor who is responsible for libraries, said: "I am appalled at the attitude of these so-called Christians making such a fuss about this policy.

Nice one, Margaret. I bet you're a joy to work with. Wouldn't happen to have a Cratchit or two on staff, would you?

-------------

Now, there are a number of ways to deal with Margaret. However, I think the most effective, not mention the most fitting, might be to fill up her various mailboxes with a few messages of gentle remonstrance.

Enclosed in an appropriate holiday card, of course. If Margy doesn't like Christmas notices at the library, imagine how she'll react when thousands of Christmas greetings show up on her doorstep.

The more religious the better, I should think.

Here's a nice online greeting, for instance, which I've just sent to mdewar@buckscc.gov.uk.

Physical cards should be addressed to:
Mrs Patricia Margaret Ann Dewar
Little Grove
8 Burkes Close
Beaconsfield
Bucks HP9 1ES

Make sure to personalize your messages. It's the special touches that make the difference.

May the Lord bless you and keep you; may the Lord make His face to shine upon you, and be gracious unto you. May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and then may the Lord smack some sense into your politally correct and oppressive soul.

May he do it sooner, rather than later.

Have a Merry Christmas!
