Blogger Compliments

One of my firmly held religious beliefs is that if a person leads an exemplary life during his sojurn upon this earth, that if he helps those in need, fights against evil and raises his children to do the same, then when he dies and goes to heaven the first thing he is given upon entering the Pearly Gates is a DVD of his life, narrated by John Facenda, the original voice of NFL films. Facenda's voice has always seemed to me the very embodiment of drama. In any universe with a dose of sense, Facenda's voice and God's voice are one and the same. Having it narrate a life seems to me one of the one of the greatest compliments I can imagine Him handing out.

"Well, done, thou good and faithful servant, " he would say. "Now have a listen to this!"

The frozen confines of Lambeau field were as nothing to the chilly ceramic tiles at the hospital where the child was born, tiles that he spent the initial seconds of his life on after his doctor fumbled away what should have been an easy reception. But despite his humble beginning, this boy would one day become a man, a man whose life and words would shake the very foundations of.....

Like every good highlight film, it would be liberally interspersed with quotes. These are some that I would like to be there, come the end.

Kim du Toit - "Now, there goes a man!"

Andrew Sullivan - "I wish he was gay."

Meryl Yourish - "I wish he was Jewish. I'd have eaten a bug for him."

Moxie - "I wish he was named Moxie."

Glenn Reynolds - "An indefatigable blogger. I read him every day."

James Lileks - "His writing made me weep. No, in a good way."

Dawn Olsen - "One night, just before they buried him. I snuck in, and, and flashed the casket."

Susana - "Me too."

Hesiod- "I hated that bastard."

Doc Weevil - "One of the premier scholars of our time."

Scott Ott - "I laughed so hard I peed my pants."

Jim Treacher - "I laughed so hard I peed Scott Ott's pants."

Michele - "His taste in music was exquisite."

Coyote at the Dog Show - "Man, could he knap flint."

Laurence Simon - "He was an asshole's asshole."

Joe Katzman - "Possibly the world's first Sufi Methodist, and by far the best."

Bill Quick - "He burned with a hard, gem-like flame. No, he didn't pay me to quote Pater. The barbeque he sent me every Christmas has nothing to do with this!"

The Staff at Silent Running - "He could drink like no man we'd ever seen."

Charles Johnson - "An anti-idiotarian." (Hey, one down!)

Fred First - "A Fabre for the 21st century. What do you mean, Fabre who? Dammit. Just put down an 'Audubon for the 21st century.'"

Tim Blair - "He's got Australian relatives, you know."

Erosblog - "I've got all his movies."

Samizdata - "A consummate link whore"

An outstanding exemplar of progressive, anti-Imperialist, Marxist-Leninist thinking.
